Holme Wold Cottage was built over 100 years ago and retains a number of original features

About our beautiful cottage

Holme Wold Cottage was built over 100 years ago.  Whilst we have of course upgraded the facilities since then we have tried to keep as much of the history that we can.  You will still find wooden windows, the original bread oven in the dining room and some rather quaint cupboards along with the odd sloping ceiling and steps where you may not expect them to be.  The roses round the door and the picket fence all add to the feeling of a quintessential English cottage.

Sitting Room

The sitting room has a log fire with as many logs as you need.  The comfy leather sofas make a great place to relax in front of the TV (freeview) or to watch a DVD with family and friends.

Dining Room

There is a second room downstairs where you can get away from the telly if you wish.  This dining room has an extendable table with plenty of space for everyone to sit for meals.  The leather sofa with standard lamp next to it is a peaceful place to read or listen to music on the CD/radio.  There is also an aux cord for you to plug in your mobile devices as well as books, jigsaws and games for all ages.

Through the back door we have a spacious self catering kitchen with electric fan oven, dishwasher. fridge, freezer, microwave and everything else you should need to cook a meal or serve your takeaway.

Shower Room

The smallest room on the ground floor is the shower room with large shower cubicle, basin and toilet.

Upstairs we have 3 bedrooms.  The two luxury king rooms have solid oak and ash furniture and have the best views of the Yorkshire countryside.  One of the king beds can be changed into two 2 ft 6 in (76.2cm, may be more suitable for children) single beds.  Let me know when you book if this would suit you better.

Twin Room

The twin room has two single beds, set of draws and somewhere to hang your clothes.  For the reader our family have chosen their favourite Ladybird books for you to read.  According to my teenagers some of these are antiques as they were the ones I enjoyed as a child.

Now this is where the character of the building shows itself!  The twin bedroom and the family bathroom have two steps in the doorway and have sloping ceilings so taller people may have to mind their heads in some places.  Detailed information is available in our access statement and floor plans or, if you prefer contact Anne by email or phone.

The family bathroom has the bath to soak the children or relax after an active day.  There is a shower attachment so you can wash your hair as well as the basin and toilet.

For the Younger Ones

If you have a baby save some space in the car as we have a travel cot (bedding not supplied), a highchair, stair gates, large fireguard and a bathroom step that you are welcome to use.  Just let me know what you need when you book.

Arrival and Departure Times

To let us prepare the cottage properly we ask that you don’t arrive before 4 pm and depart by 10 am.  Depending on the time of year we may be able to alter these times.  Please feel free to ask and we will help if we can but please remember some months are particularly busy.
